How do I reserve a pitch?
We don't take bookings! Just turn up and we'll be happy to get you settled in. Our reception is open 8am-10pm for arrivals
Will I definitely get a pitch without booking?
It is really not the case of you do not 'need' to book, we simply do not take bookings in advance at all, as there is no issue with getting a spot with us!!
We have an extremely large campsite for you to choose a spot to camp in, with 2 separate areas, where you can move around as much as you like within the boundaries when ever you like.
We always just like to remind anyone travelling to us on school holidays or bank holidays, when the sun is shining, there will be a lot of people here and if you prefer quieter times, please avoid these holiday times.
The ferry says I need to have proof of accomodation, but you don't take bookings?
Don't worry - CalMac know Fidden Farm well! You can just let them know you're planning to stay with us if you're asked.
Alternatively, you can download our Proof of Accomodation eCard for use on Calmac Ferries.
Can I reserve a specific pitch?
We have no fixed pitches, and "spots" are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
However, regardless of where you end up on Fidden, we promise you you'll have breathtaking views.
Do you provide electric hook up?
No, we do not currently have electric hook ups available.
What time should I arrive for?
Our reception is open every day 8am-10pm for arrivals, and we'll be happy to get you settled in ASAP when you arrive!
Please bear in mind the reception is attached to our family home when arriving late, as our children will be sleeping, please do not sound the horn or repeatedly ring the bell for attention (we promise we hear you and will be with you as soon as we can) 🙂
What do we do if we arrive late at night?
We will have reception available to anyone arriving late until 10pm if for some reason the reception is closed earlier or you are arriving later than this please pitch up inside the campsite ground and return to check in, in the morning.
Please bear in mind the reception is attached to our family home when arriving late, as our children will be sleeping, please do not sound the horn or repeatedly ring the bell for attention (we promise we hear you and will be with you as soon as we can) thank you so much 🙂
Can we extend our stay?
Yes, please come to the farmhouse reception before 2pm to extend!
However we advise arriving with a clear amount of days you would like to stay with us as, if we ever become too busy at any given time (school holiday etc) we will ask for a definite time scale to your stay which is of your choice, with no extensions allowed to manage numbers until things quieten down. We feel this is the best way to ensure you will always get a space when arriving and be fair for all!

Unfortunately this is currently out of order for the season, we are so sorry for any inconvenience!!
Are you dog friendly?
Dogs are welcome but they Must be kept on a lead at all times even on the beach due to livestock, other dogs & peoples safety & more likely to clean up Fouling.
Does the site have WiFi?
Yes! We are very happy to say we have installed Wifi for campers use. The best way to get set up is sign in up near the toilet and shower block with the password we give out on the welcome leaflet on arrival and then it will follow you down to where you park up for the night .
Does the site have mobile/4G coverage?
We have been recommended to use 02 or EE, Vodafon has just been added to the local mast also but even this is not a very good signal be prepared for this!
Can I access the beach/water from my pitch?
You sure can! You can walk straight onto the sand
Is the water suitable for paddleboarding or swimming?
Yes! The shallow waters of our secluded bay make for ideal conditions for paddle boarding, swimming and other watersports.
Are we allowed a fire?
We allow all Fires and BBQ either on the beach or raised off the ground in a metal fire pit. We do not want burning to our grass therefore gathering rocks off the beach and sitting them on the grass does not count as raised, it will still burn underneath. Please come prepared!
Where is the nearest shop?
There is a small Grocery Shop called the Ferry Shop 1 mile from the campsite in Fionnphort or a Spar in Bunessan & Iona
How are the roads approaching the site?
Throughout Mull, single-track roads are very common.
Our top tips for driving on single track roads include:
● Keep to the left
● Drive at a speed you are comfortable
● Please allow overtaking, the car behind may be travelling to a doctors appointment or ferry!
● Avoid convoys if you are at the front of the line please pull in
It is a beautiful journey through the Isle of Mull but sticking to these rules makes it an enjoyable experience for all!!
I'm using a SatNav - what address should I put in?
Our official address is:
Fidden Farm,
Fionnphort
Isle of Mull
Argyll
PA66 6BN
Are you exposed to high winds / will my tent/caravan be okay?
We are VERY exposed to winds as they come straight in off the Atlantic, It is well worth investing in a strong weather tent ( we recommend a Bell Tent they have proven very strong) if you are to camp with us, we have sheltered areas on site but If bad weather is forecast please be advised to pitch away from the bank of the beach to save any tent casualties. This also applies to vans and caravans in excessive strong winds, always park away from the bank of the beach if winds become too strong!!! PLEASE ALWAYS KEEP AN EYE ON FORECAST BEFORE PITCHING!
I'm planning to visit Iona and/or Staffa - how close are you to the ferry port?
We're just 1 mile from where your trips start, making us a popular spot to stay!
Why are dogs to be kept on leads, even on the beach ?
We are firstly a working farm here at Fidden. Our livestock roam freely right across our lands - from just outside Fionnphort Village, right to Knockvologan Farm (who also wish for people to keep their dogs on leads on their beaches) is Fidden Ground & we just cannot risk any worrying or threat to them. When the campsite is open we have mothers with young lambs all around. Even if a dog has no interest in livestock, simply it walking past a ewe & her lamb can cause distress or separation. We hope that everyone that visits us will respect this.
How far are you from the Ferries?
We are 36 Miles from the Craiginure Ferry Terminal, roughly 1 hours drive.
Fishnish Ferry Terminal: 45 Miles, roughly 1 hour 45 minutes drive
Is there afoot path back to Fionnphort Village ?
You can get back to Fionnphort with a short 20-30 minute walk from the campsite along the main road, we ask everyone to stick to path ways and roads while exploring our rounds as we want as little disturbance to wild life & our livestock as possible.
Do you accept Caravans?
We accept any vehicle or tent that you wish to bring, as there is no set space restrictions we have no issue with the size of Vehicle whatsoever!!
When are the busy times of year ?
Any Bank Holiday (especially The Whitsun Bank Holiday) is our absolute busiest time in the whole season from 24th of May - 4th of June every year is extremely busy, if you can avoid this time at all we would advise you to do so. Also when the Scottish & English summer holiday dates collide is always a busy time in the season (from the end of July into August.)
We advise arriving with a clear amount of days you would like to stay with us as, if we ever become too busy at any given time (school holiday etc) we will ask for a definite time scale to your stay which is of your choice, with no extensions allowed to manage numbers until things quieten down. We feel this is the best way to ensure you will always get a space when arriving and be fair for all!
We are planning a trip with a large group 10+ people is this okay to just turn up?
We only need to know of any organised groups with large numbers at one time for example a school trip, kayak/climbing groups or weddings etc. Especially if it falls in line with a Bank Holiday Weekend, we would recommend if possible to avoid these busy times. A group of friends and family is no problem at all just pop into reception separately to check in on arrival.
Can it be bad with midges?
We are very lucky we tend have a sea breeze most days which is great for keeping midges at bay but on the rare occasion we have a calm spell with the wind they can appear but not usually an issue for us here at Fidden
Do you provide a kettle or hairdryer
We do not provide any appliances we highly recommend you bring along a hairdryer with you for your stay
What does Fidden have to offer ?
Here at Fidden we want to share our land and beaches with you, some people may say we are basic but to be honest that suits us, we do not claim to be a 'Glamping site' We are a Campsite, on a working farm, where you have the freedom to choose your spot in the camping areas & move around as much as you like, while provided with all the essential facilities you should need on a campsite.
Our main goal is to allow people to enjoy the surroundings, take in the nature of the place, hear the birds singing, sheep grazing, read a book on the sand, to allow children to explore the rock pools. We feel what we provide for people is so important, to be able switch off from busy lives, from work, to spend quality time with family. We shall never change.
Is there an extra charge for awnings or extra tents ?
We charge per person, not per tent, awnings and extra tents for cooking, storage are absolutely fine, as long as it is in keeping with respecting your neighbours space, 6 metres distance
Are drones allowed to be flown on site ?
We personally love seeing peoples take on Fidden through pictures or drone footage, however we 100% do not allow drones to be flown directly above or through the campsite, to save everyones privacy on site! Out with the camping grounds from afar is acceptable or the landscape surrounding it is perfectly fine! We look forward to you sharing your content as usual!!
Is your water drinkable?
We have a private supply of water which gets tested very regularly & goes through many UV filters to make sure it is good drinking water. We do not put any chlorine or chemicals in to which would make it crystal clear as we enjoy the natural taste however this can make it slightly off colour but it is very safe drinking water.
Please note when using our water for any reason (washing dishes, showers etc) that it is a private supply and not on the main, therefore we would really appreciate being mindful of the amount you are using at any given time, every drop of water counts with us especially when the campsite is busy!
Farm house reception times?
Monday - Sunday- Reception is open at 8am-10pm
8am-5pm we are here for any enquiries and extensions to your stay.
However the reception will be open for people arriving to the campsite until 10pm every night!
Do you allow Generators to be used on site?
No i am afraid not, people come to stay with us are looking for peace & quiet and we really feel it would not be fair to everyone around for generators to be running on site! We recommend investing in a solar powered device if it is a must to have power
You close on the 30th of September, can i stay that night ?
The 30th of September is our last night of the season. We will accept campers to stay but will expect everyone to be checked out by 2pm on the 1st of October, from where we will be closed until the 1st of April 2024.
Key spots to visit near you?
We are 1 mile from the ferry port to Iona and Staffa boat trips. We also have a Large detailed map of all the walks, beaches, places to eat and much more hanging in our dish washing room to help you plan out your days with us.
I have read on another website/Leaflet - you do have electric hook up/ We can book .. but you say you do not...which is true?
We update our website very regularly to keep people informed as best we can before arriving at Fidden. Unfortunately there has been many other sites and people posting incorrect information about us for many years. This is the ONLY accurate website www.fiddenfarm.co.uk along with our social media sites that we manage in the same manner daily. Please pay no attention to other sites out their we have no control of them

Is the bay around the campsite safe for paddle boards, Kayaks and other water sports?
Yes it is a very safe, secluded bay which is usually quite shallow, however please be cautious when heading out further than the shore line, always wear a lifejacket, check the forecast beforehand, especially the direction of the wind. If you are planning to head away from the campsite for the day or even overnight please inform us up at the reception and leave some contact details. If something should happen while out please let us know asap at the reception so we can assist the Coast Gaurd of your location as soon as possible.
Where do we buy fuel and camping gas?
Ardfenaig Filling Station sells fuel for your vehicles and also cooking gas. Just 2.6 miles from the campsite 9am- 6pm Closed on Sunday
Is there somewhere nearby that rents Kayaks etc ?
Bendoran Water Sports, Bunessan 07906517673
We plan when camping with you to go out on our boat and possibly camp else where when doing so, is this okay?
This is absolutely fine, however we Must be informed at reception if you have plans not to return for the night and a phone number must be given to us so we can contact you. It can cause a lot of panic if a tent/van is found unoccupied especially when boats are involved, the coast guard will be called immediately if this is the case, so all we ask is that you let us know if this is your plans in advance.
Can i wash my wet suit somewhere?
Yes we have many water taps dotted around the site to do this, we would like this to be done outside our facilities not in the showers.
What are the busy times for facilities, best to avoid?
The main rush hour times are from 9am-11am and then from 5pm-7pm
We do completely close the facilities for cleaning from 12pm-2pm everyday, (portaloos are available for use on the campsite if you should need at this time.)
The whole unit is open for use 22 hours of the day 🙂
How do we get to Erraid or Knockvologan from the campsite ??
The best way to head up to Knockvologan which is 1.8 miles from the campsite, we recommend if you can to cycle or walk to this as there is little space for lots of cars to park, if you need to take a car, park this off the road before the Knockvologan farm gate, making sure you are not blocking any access gates or the sheds access areas.
From there walk through the farm yard and you will reach a stoney track down hill at the bottomn you will meet a boat shed, you can either head left along the beach to the most beautiful beaches or you can head right and cross over to Erraid Island on low tide, google 'Fidden Beach Tide Times' and it will come up with a clear chart.
We must add Dogs must stay on a lead at all times even on the beach, the farmer has many sheep and cows roaming on the beaches and hill land in this area.
What days does food come to the campsite?
We are very lucky to have:
THE CREEL SEAFOOD BAR: delivering to us every Thursday evening 5pm-7pm this is to be ordered in advance before 4pm on the thursday : 07864605682
THE FOODIE SHACK Pizza Van parks in the day beach car park every Friday 4pm-8pm or until they sell out of pizza this is advised to be booked in advance asap as they do sell out often, this can be done on www.thefoodieshack.co.uk
ISLAND EATS also parks in the beach day car park area with a breakfast van serving hot rolls, teas & coffees from 8am-11am most mornings and it also serves burgers twice a week 5pm-7.30pm.
All have social media which are worth a wee look to find accurate days and timings as they can vary through out the season!
Can we borrow tools from the campsite/farm?
We are not allowed to hand out our tools to the public, please come prepared for this before coming on to the island. There is also a hardware store available in Fionnphort just pop into the Ferry Shop and ask to be shown where this is. There is also a charity shop in Bunessan 5 miles away which is very well stocked with items that may be useful for your stay.
Do you do any farm experiences ?
We do not do any farm experiences as of yet, however we do let out our friendly goats on a sunny day for the children to see. They are lots of fun to watch.
Please do not chase or feed any of the animals The sheep and goats all have young babies and it can cause a lot of distress to them.
In the summer months you will often see us bringing in groups of sheep to shear their wool, (which is vital for the animals welfare) you are more than welcome to watch from the gates at the process of shearing and rolling the wool.
Quiet time at night, on the campsite ...
Here at Fidden we love everyone to have a good time around their firepits on the beaches or at their camping pitch, however you must be aware of the many people staying around you and we expect everyone to respect their neighbours peace and quiet through the night!
We ask for everyone to ensure they are as quiet as possible from the hours of 10.30pm-7.30am
Thank you!
Can we leave items to save our camping spot while vehicle is off site?
We do not allow items such as tables, chairs or signs to be left in your vehicles place while off site, as it is an open site with no set pitches this can cause issues with people arriving and not knowing your vehicle size or set up.
We recommend leaving your vehicle in place if you wish to stay in this spot, however if you cannot do this, you will have to pack up and find a new spot on your return. This does not include tents and awnings, they are absolutely fine to be left in place until you return!
Do you provide picnic benches for each individual pitch?
As we do not have individual set out pitches on our campsite, this is not possible. We provide 40 picnic benches spread out randomly around the 2 camping areas for everyones use.
You may pitch your vehicle close by a bench to use regularly, however you cannot claim a bench as your own, (leaving lots of your belongings on top of them, when not in use, is not allowed) They are here for all campers use and we will not tolerate any aggressive behaviour towards your fellow campers, over the use of benches.
